The New York Times

Why it slaps: Native product integration.
Advertising a digital product is a tricky beast, as there isn’t something tangible to gift to a creator or do a studio photoshoot. However, I thought the NYT did such a great take on this “Sunday Reset” trend by organically integrating different topics and elements of their content offering into the video content. Bravo.
How you could adapt: How can you make the intangible feel tangible?

Square

Why it slaps: Subtle social proof.
This ad definitely feels like more of a brand play vs. the direct response style that is common with paid ads, but by partnering with a trusted food creator and being content first in their approach, it creates a sense of FOMO that “all the cool spots in LA use Square”. Would be curious to see the other collateral they are running with this strategy.
How you could adapt: How can you show social proof without shoving it down people’s throats with big testimonials and reviews?

Bondi Boost

Why it slaps: Easy execution.
Sometime tweaking the copy on an existing video can be all you need to make an ad feel like less of an ad. You could totally change the tone of this video by listing out the product benefits, doing a before and after etc. but having a cheeky title there which holds the viewer long enough to see your product in action is also good angle to test!
How you could adapt: Rerun some old product demo videos with more ‘native’ copy.

2 Brands to Follow

DROOL

WEBSITE: Big bold product visuals lends itself well for the nature of their product and branding

CREATIVE STRATEGY: They seem to have gone all in a core hook “I could never afford sick art” and create diversity by showing the different prints available

Why I’m Loving Them: DROOL's creative approach is a breath of fresh air in the consumer world. They collaborate with emerging artists to curate a diverse collection of contemporary art prints that cater to various tastes and styles, and their ads are always gorgeous showcases of these unique prints and how to style them in your home. By making unique art accessible and affordable, DROOL has seen massive success, and I’ve personally seen their artworks in SO many people’s homes the past couple of years.

SURI

WEBSITE: They’ve cleverly framed a traditional “commodity” product (toothbrushes) as a premium gift

CREATIVE STRATEGY: Reflected this similar gifting messaging across their recent paid ads

Why I’m loving them: SURI has redefined oral care by blending sustainability with high-performance design. Their sonic toothbrushes are crafted from recyclable materials, featuring plant-based brush heads and aluminum handles, ensuring both durability and eco-friendliness. SURI's commitment to reducing plastic waste is evident in their innovative recycling program, allowing customers to return used brush heads for proper recycling.
